TikTok asks for a few extra choices on every post. The composer shows them when your TikTok account is active. If you haven’t connected TikTok yet, see Connect TikTok.
Right now, PublishBuddy publishes every TikTok post as Only Me, so only you can see it. This happens whatever you pick in the composer. Open the post in the TikTok app afterwards to change who can see it.

Post to TikTok

1

Pick your TikTok account

Click New Post and pick your TikTok account under Accounts. If you picked other accounts too, click the TikTok avatar above the text box.
2

Add a video or photos

TikTok needs media. Add one video, or one or more images for a photo post. A text-only post stops with “TikTok does not support this type of post.”
3

Write the caption

Type your text. It goes out as the caption.
4

Pick a Privacy Status

Choose who can see the post. You must pick one before you can save.
5

Set the other TikTok options

Check Allow Users to and Disclose Commercial Content. Both are explained below.
6

Schedule it

Pick a time, or add it to your queue.
TikTok only takes Post. Reel and Story are grayed out while a TikTok account is picked.

Privacy Status

You can’t pick Only Me for branded content. TikTok doesn’t allow paid partnerships to be private.

Allow Users to

Tick the boxes for what other people can do with your post:
  • Add Comment lets people comment.
  • Duet lets people post a video side by side with yours.
  • Stitch lets people use a clip of your video in theirs.
If a box is grayed out, that option is turned off in your TikTok account’s own settings. Change it in TikTok to use it here.

Disclose Commercial Content

Turn on Disclose Commercial Content if the post promotes a brand, product or service. Then tick one or both boxes:
  • Your Brand is for promoting yourself or your own business. You’ll see ‘Your photo/video will be labeled as “Promotional content”’.
  • Branded Content is for promoting another brand, like a paid partnership or sponsorship. You’ll see ‘Your photo/video will be labeled as “Paid partnership”’.
If you tick both, TikTok labels it as a paid partnership. If you turn on the switch but tick nothing, you can’t save. You’ll see “You need to indicate if your content promotes yourself, a third party, or both.” At the bottom of the composer, a line says you agree to TikTok’s Music Usage Confirmation. For branded content it adds TikTok’s Branded Content Policy.

Video and photo limits

PublishBuddy checks that a TikTok video is 3 seconds to 10 minutes long and no bigger than 1 GB. Images can be up to 20 MB. Some TikTok accounts can only post shorter videos. PublishBuddy asks TikTok for your account’s limit when it publishes. If your video is longer, the post fails. See My post failed. Follow-up comments aren’t available on TikTok.
