This page shows what kind of post each network takes when you schedule it from PublishBuddy. For file sizes, video lengths and character counts, see Character, image and video limits for each network.

The table

A few rules apply to every network:
  • A post can hold up to 8 media files. Some networks allow fewer, as the table shows.
  • Two or more videos in one post count as mixed media. Only Instagram, Threads and Telegram take that.
  • Reel and Story take exactly one file. A Reel must be a video.
  • Post, Reel or Story applies to every account in the post. Reel only works if every account is on Facebook, Instagram or YouTube. Story only works if every account is on Facebook or Instagram.
For how the three types work, see Posts, Reels and Stories.

Notes for each network

Text, links, images and a single video all work. You can’t mix photos and a video in one post. Text and link posts can carry a call-to-action button. Stories go out without a caption. See Facebook Reels, Stories and the call-to-action button.
Every post needs media. Several images make a carousel, and a carousel can mix photos and videos. Videos in a mixed carousel can’t be 9:16. A video sent as Post goes out as a Reel. Stories go out without a caption. This applies to accounts on the Instagram login too. See Instagram Reels and Stories.
Text, links, images and a single video all work, up to 8 files. You can’t mix photos and a video in one post.
Up to 4 images, or one video. A video must be an MP4 or MOV file. You can’t mix photos and a video.

Every post needs a video or images. Several images make a photo post. You can’t mix photos and a video. See TikTok options.
Every Pin needs an image or a video, and a board. Up to 5 images make one Pin with multiple images. See Pinterest options.
Video only, one per post, with a Title. Post and Reel both upload a regular video. YouTube decides if it shows as a Short. See YouTube options.

What you’ll see if a post doesn’t fit

Some checks run when you save the post:
  • “Instagram does not support this type of post.” (or TikTok or Pinterest) means the post has no media.
  • “Youtube does not support this type of post.” means a YouTube post has no video.
  • “Bluesky supports a maximum of 4 media items per post.” means you added too many files for Bluesky.
  • A message that ends in “publication type must be only” lists the types that network takes. It usually means you mixed photos and a video.
Other problems only show up when the network gets the post, and the post fails. See My post failed.
