Networks sometimes end PublishBuddy’s access to an account. A password change, a removed permission or an expired login can all do it. Posts to that account fail until you reconnect it. Reconnecting doesn’t remove anything. Your scheduled posts, queue and history stay as they are.

How you know an account needs it

  • On Accounts, a red warning icon shows next to the account. Hover over it to see “This social profile needs to be reconnected”.
  • In the post window, you can’t pick the account. It shows “Social account needs to be refreshed.” with a Refresh it now link.
  • You get a notice titled “Action needed: reconnect” and the account’s name. It has a Reconnect link that opens the account’s settings.
  • A post to it fails with a message like “The connected account needs to be refreshed. Please reconnect it and try again.”

Reconnect one account

1

Open the account's menu

Click Accounts in the sidebar. Click the ⋯ menu next to the account and choose Reconnect.
2

Log in with the same account

A login window opens for that network. Log in with the same account you used to connect it. A different login stops with “Make sure you are logged into the correct account before reconnecting.”For Facebook, keep the Page ticked if Facebook asks which Pages to share. If it isn’t ticked, nothing happens.
You’ll see “The profile has been successfully reconnected.” The red icon turns into a green check. You can also reconnect from the account’s settings. Click the account’s name on Accounts, then Reauthorize under Reauthorize Connection.

Networks that work differently

  • Bluesky: a Reauthorize Bluesky window opens with your username filled in. Paste a new app password and click Continue. See Connect a Bluesky account.
  • Telegram: no window opens. PublishBuddy checks that @publishbuddy_bot is still an admin of the channel. See Connect a Telegram channel.
  • Instagram: log in the same way you connected it, through Facebook or with Instagram.
  • Pinterest: reconnecting also loads any boards you made since you connected.

Reconnect every Facebook Page at once

If several Facebook Pages need it, click the ⋯ menu next to any Facebook Page and choose Reconnect All. Log in to Facebook once. PublishBuddy reconnects every Facebook Page in this workspace that your Facebook login returns. You’ll see “Facebook pages have been successfully reconnected”. Reconnect All is only on Facebook Pages.

On a team: whose connection you fix

Each account posts through a connection: the owner’s, or a team member’s own. See Post with your own connection or the owner’s.
  • When the owner reconnects, they fix the owner’s connection. That’s the one most team members post through.
  • When an admin or editor reconnects, they fix only their own connection. It helps their posts only if they’re set to Use Member’s Account Connection.
So if the account posts through the owner’s connection, the owner has to reconnect it. A team member’s reconnect won’t clear the warning for them.

Get an email next time

Click your avatar, choose Settings and open Email Notifications. Under Social Accounts, turn on “Send me an email when a connected social account needs to be reconnected.” It’s on unless you turned it off.

Common problems

The window was logged in to a different account. Log out of that network in another tab, log in to the right account, then click Reconnect again.
The Page wasn’t shared in the Facebook window. Reconnect again and tick that Page when Facebook asks which Pages to share. If Facebook doesn’t ask, see My Facebook Page doesn’t show up.
It’s over your plan’s account limit, so you can’t reconnect it. See I can’t add more social accounts.
