What you see

The post sits under Failed on the Posts page with this reason: “The scheduled publishing time was missed. Please reschedule or retry publishing.” Or the time passed, and the post is still under Drafts or For Approval.

Why it happens

PublishBuddy checks for posts that are due every minute. A post can still be late:
  • PublishBuddy couldn’t publish for a while. Late posts still go out once it can. If 24 hours pass and the post still hasn’t gone out, PublishBuddy marks it failed. It doesn’t send day-old posts without asking.
  • The post wasn’t approved in time. Posts under For Approval never go out on their own, even when their date passes.
  • The post is a draft. Drafts never go out on their own either.
A post can also fail for another reason close to its time, like an account that needs reconnecting. That shows a different reason. See My post failed to publish.
Did the post stay on “publishing” for an hour? PublishBuddy then marks it failed with “Publishing could not be confirmed.” Check the network before you send it again, so it doesn’t go out twice.

How to fix it

For a failed post:
1

Open the failed post

Open Posts in the sidebar and switch the status menu to Failed.
2

Check it's still worth sending

A post about a date or an event may be out of date now. To change it, click the post’s date and time to open the edit window.
3

Send it

  • Retry sends it right away. A queued post goes back into its queue slot.
  • Publish Again lets you pick a new date and time. Click Schedule to confirm.
For a post in For Approval: an owner or admin approves it by choosing when it goes out. See Approve posts before they go out. For a draft: open Drafts, then add it to the queue or schedule it.

When to email us

Email hello@publishbuddy.com if several posts show this reason at once, or it happens again. Include:
  • the social accounts involved
  • the times the posts were due, with your time zone
  • whether the posts were scheduled or queued
