# Posts, Reels and Stories: which networks take which?

> Pick Post, Reel or Story at the top of the composer. See which networks take each type and what changes when you pick one.

At the top of the **Create Post** window you'll see three choices: **Post**, **Reel** and **Story**. The choice applies to the whole post, so every account you picked gets the same type.

## Which networks take which type

| Type | Networks | Media |
| - | - | - |
| **Post** | Every network | Depends on the network. See [Post types and limits for each network](/help/limits/post-types-by-network). |
| **Reel** | Facebook, Instagram and YouTube | Exactly one video |
| **Story** | Facebook and Instagram | Exactly one image or video |

If you picked an account on another network, **Reel** and **Story** are grayed out. Hover over them to see why. You'll see "The selected networks don't support this post type." for Reels, or "Stories are only supported for Facebook and Instagram." for Stories.

To post a Reel to Instagram and a regular post to LinkedIn, make two posts.

## Post

**Post** is the default. It covers text, images, carousels, videos and links, as each network allows.

A few networks need media. Instagram, TikTok and Pinterest won't take a text-only post. YouTube needs a video and a **Title**.

On Instagram, a video sent as **Post** goes out as a Reel anyway. That's how Instagram handles videos.

## Reel

Pick **Reel** for a short vertical video on Facebook, Instagram or YouTube.

* Add exactly one video. When **Reel** is picked, the upload box only offers video files.
* Your text goes out as the Reel's caption.
* Emoji, **Write with AI** and follow-up comments all still work.

If **Reel** is grayed out, hover over it. "Reels must be a video" means your file is an image. "Reels must contain only 1 media item and must be a video" means you added more than one file. Remove the extra files and it becomes available again.

On YouTube, PublishBuddy uploads a Reel the same way as any other video. YouTube decides if it shows as a Short.

## Story

Pick **Story** for a full-screen post on Facebook or Instagram that the network shows for a limited time.

When you pick **Story**, the composer changes:

* **The text box goes away.** Stories go out without a caption.
* **Emoji and Write with AI turn off.** Hover over the emoji icon and you'll see "This feature can't be used with Story posts".
* **You can add only one file.** After one image or video, the upload box turns off with "Stories must contain only 1 media item".
* **Follow-up comments go away.** Stories can't have them.
* **Facebook's button option goes away.** It only works on **Post**.

If you try to save a Story without media, you'll see "You must upload post media first."

<Note>
  The preview on the right shows the Story as it will go out: your one file, with no caption.
</Note>

## Switching types

You can switch between **Post**, **Reel** and **Story** at any time before you save. Your media stays. Check it still fits the new type, since a Story or Reel takes one file only.

Any text you typed stays saved with the post when you switch to **Story**, but it isn't published.
