# How do I add a first comment to a post?

> Add follow-up comments that PublishBuddy posts under your post once it goes live, with an optional delay and media.

**Plans:** Pro and Business.

A follow-up comment is a comment PublishBuddy posts under your own post once it's live. People use it for links, hashtags, or extra details they don't want in the caption. You can add more than one and space them out with a delay.

## Which networks take follow-up comments

| Network | Text | One image or video |
| - | - | - |
| Facebook | Yes | Yes |
| LinkedIn | Yes | Yes |
| X | Yes | Yes |
| Bluesky | Yes | Yes |
| Instagram | Yes | No |
| Threads | Yes | No |
| YouTube | Yes | No |
| TikTok, Pinterest, Telegram | No | No |

Follow-up comments don't work on Stories. When you pick **Story**, the comment section goes away.

On X, Threads and Bluesky, each comment replies to the one before it, so they form a thread under your post. On the other networks, every comment goes directly under the post.

## Add a comment

<Steps>
  <Step title="Write your post">
    Click **New Post**, pick your accounts, and write the post as usual.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Make one account active">
    If you picked several accounts, click the avatar of the account you want to comment on. The comment section only shows while an account is active. With one account picked, it's active already.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Click the plus next to Add a comment">
    You'll find **Add a comment** under the text box. A new comment box opens.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Type the comment">
    Write the text. On networks that allow it, you can also add one image or video.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Add more if you like">
    Click the plus again for another comment. Click a closed comment to open it again.
  </Step>
</Steps>

Comments belong to one account. To comment on two accounts, click each avatar in turn and add their comments. See [Change a post for just one network](/help/posts/customize-per-network).

## Add a delay

By default, a comment goes out shortly after the post is published. To wait longer:

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the comment's menu">
    Click the menu button in the top right corner of the comment box.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Choose Add a delay">
    A window opens with **Post comments after:**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Set the wait">
    Enter a number from 1 to 100. Pick **Minute(s)**, **Hours** or **Days**. Click **Save**.
  </Step>
</Steps>

The delay counts from when the post goes live. For a second or third comment, it counts from when the comment before it went out.

## Limits

* A comment can be up to 1,000 characters.
* The network's own caption limit applies too. On X, for example, a comment longer than X allows stops with "Comment text validation failed."
* Each comment can have one image or video, and only on the networks in the table above. Add a second and you'll see "Comments can have only one media item".

To remove a comment, open its menu and choose **Delete Comment**, or click the trash icon on a closed comment.

## On the Free plan

On Free, you can write comments in the composer. But when you save the post, you'll see "Please upgrade your plan." Remove the comments to save, or upgrade. See [Plans compared](/help/limits/plans-compared).

## If a comment doesn't post

A comment is posted separately from the post. If it fails, your post stays live and only the comment is marked as failed. PublishBuddy doesn't try it again. See [My follow-up comment didn't post](/help/troubleshooting/follow-up-comment-failed).
