# Connect an Instagram account

> Connect an Instagram professional account through Facebook or with the Instagram login.

You can connect Instagram on any plan. Each Instagram account counts as one of your plan's social accounts. See [Which social accounts can I connect?](/help/connect-accounts)

<Warning>
  The Instagram account must be a **professional account**: Business or Creator. Personal Instagram accounts can't be connected. Switching to a professional account is free, and you do it in the Instagram app.
</Warning>

## Two ways to log in

When you click the Instagram tile, you get two options:

| Option | You log in with | Best when |
| - | - | - |
| **Instagram via Facebook** (picked for you) | Facebook | The Instagram account is linked to a Facebook Page you manage |
| **Instagram** | Instagram | The Instagram account isn't linked to a Facebook Page |

Pick one way for each account. On **Accounts**, both kinds show up under Instagram, and you create posts for them the same way.

## What you need first

* **For Instagram via Facebook:** the Instagram account is a professional account, and it's linked to a Facebook Page. Your Facebook login needs to manage that Page.
* **For Instagram:** the Instagram account is a professional account, and you have its login.

## Connect through Facebook

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the networks">
    Click **Accounts** in the sidebar, then **Add Social Accounts**. Click the **Instagram** tile.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Choose Instagram via Facebook">
    Leave **Instagram via Facebook** selected and click **Continue**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Log in to Facebook">
    A Facebook window opens. Log in with the account that manages the linked Page. If Facebook asks which Pages and Instagram accounts to share, tick the ones you want. Keep every permission on.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Add the account">
    Back in PublishBuddy, a window lists the Instagram accounts linked to your Pages. Click **Connect** next to each one you want, then **Done**.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Connect with the Instagram login

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the networks">
    Click **Accounts** in the sidebar, then **Add Social Accounts**. Click the **Instagram** tile.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Choose Instagram">
    Select **Instagram** and click **Continue**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Log in to Instagram">
    An Instagram window opens. Log in to the account you want to post to and allow access. If you use several Instagram accounts, check which one is logged in.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Add the account">
    Back in PublishBuddy, a window lists that account by its username. Click **Connect**, then **Done**.
  </Step>
</Steps>

If no login window opens, your browser blocked the pop-up. See [The login window didn't open](/help/troubleshooting/popup-blocked).

## What you'll see

A message confirms it, like "1 Instagram account added". PublishBuddy takes you back to **Accounts**, where the account shows up under Instagram.

Instagram posts need a photo or a video. A text-only post can't go to Instagram. See [Post types for each network](/help/limits/post-types-by-network).

## Common problems

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="Missing Instagram Data">
    The full message is "We didn't receive any data from Instagram, please ensure you enable all permissions and try again." No new account came back. The usual causes:

    * The account is a personal account, not a professional one.
    * With **Instagram via Facebook**: the account isn't linked to a Facebook Page, or you didn't share that Page with PublishBuddy.
    * The account is already connected in this workspace.

    See [My Instagram account doesn't show up](/help/troubleshooting/instagram-not-showing).
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="The account needs to be reconnected">
    [Reconnect the account](/help/connect/reconnect). Log in the same way you connected it: through Facebook, or with Instagram.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="This social profile already exists in another workspace.">
    An account can only be in one workspace at a time. Remove it from the other workspace first, then connect it here.
  </Accordion>
