# Connect a Bluesky account

> Add your Bluesky account to PublishBuddy with your username and an app password.

You can connect a Bluesky account on any plan. It counts as one of your plan's social accounts. See [Which social accounts can I connect?](/help/connect-accounts)

Bluesky works differently from the other networks. There's no login window. You type your Bluesky username and an app password into PublishBuddy instead.

## What you need first

* **Your Bluesky username.** On Bluesky, open your profile. Your username sits below your display name and looks like `username.bsky.social`.
* **An app password.** This is a separate password you make in Bluesky's settings. It lets PublishBuddy post for you without your real password. Don't use your account password here.

## Connect your account

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the networks">
    Click **Accounts** in the sidebar, then **Add Social Accounts**. Click the **Bluesky** tile.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Enter your username">
    The **Connect Bluesky** window opens. In **Username**, type your username without the @. For example, `username.bsky.social`.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Make and paste an app password">
    Click **Generate app password in Bluesky**. It opens Bluesky's app password settings in a new tab. Create a new app password and copy it.

    Back in PublishBuddy, paste it into **Password**. It looks like `xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx`.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Click Continue">
    A window opens with your Bluesky account in it.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Add the account">
    Click **Connect** next to your account. The button changes to **Connected**. Then click **Done**.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## What you'll see

A message confirms it, like "1 Bluesky account added". PublishBuddy takes you back to **Accounts**, where your Bluesky account now shows up.

## Common problems

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="Bluesky says the username or password is wrong">
    Check that the username has no @ in front and includes the full ending, like `.bsky.social`. Then make a fresh app password and paste it again. Your normal Bluesky password won't work here.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Missing Bluesky Data">
    You'll see "We didn't receive any data from Bluesky" when that Bluesky account is already connected in this workspace. Look for it on **Accounts**.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="You deleted the app password in Bluesky">
    PublishBuddy loses access, and the account needs to be reconnected. Make a new app password, then reconnect. On **Accounts**, click the **⋯** menu next to the account and choose **Reconnect**. The **Reauthorize Bluesky** window opens with your username filled in. Paste the new app password and click **Continue**. See [Reconnect a social account](/help/connect/reconnect).
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="You're over your plan's account limit">
    See [I can't add more social accounts](/help/troubleshooting/account-limit).
