# How do I buy more AI credits?

> Buy a credit pack when your monthly AI credits run low: the three packs, how you pay, and why bought credits never expire.

**Plans:** Pro and Business.

Your plan gives you AI credits every month. If you run out before they refill, you can buy a credit pack. Bought credits are added on top of your plan credits, and they never expire.

## The packs

Each pack is a one-time payment. It isn't a subscription, so nothing renews.

## Buy a pack

    Click your avatar at the top right, choose **Settings** and open the **AI Credits** tab.

    You'll find it under **Purchased credits**. The **Buy AI Credits** window opens and shows your plan and purchased credits at the top.

    PublishBuddy charges your default card right away. There's no checkout page.

  <Step title="Check your balance">
    You'll see a message like "500 credits added!" The credits show under **Purchased credits** straight away.

If you'd rather get more credits every month, click **upgrade your plan** at the bottom of the window. Business includes 2,500 credits a month, against 500 on Pro.

## Other ways to open the window

You don't have to go to Settings first. The same **Buy AI Credits** window opens from:

* **AI Studio**, when a generation costs more than you have. You'll see "You need 40 more credits to generate this." (with your own number) and a **Buy credits** button.
* **The AI Agent**, when something it tries to do needs more credits than you have left.
* **Billing**, when you change your plan. Under the credits line on Pro and Business, click **Need more? Buy credit packs**.

## How bought credits are used

PublishBuddy always uses your plan credits first. Bought credits are only used once your plan credits for the month are gone.

Bought credits stay when your plan credits refill. They also stay if you change plans. The **AI Credits** tab says "Purchased credits don't expire".

Credits belong to the workspace owner. Every workspace the owner has shares the same balance, so a pack bought once works in all of them.

## Who can buy

* **Free plan:** you can't buy packs. The button is grayed out and says "Upgrade to a paid plan to buy credit packs".
* **Pro and Business:** the workspace owner can buy packs.
* **Free trial:** you need a saved card first. Without one, you'll see "A payment method is required to purchase credit packs."
* **Team members:** a pack is charged to the card of the person who buys it, and that person needs a paid plan of their own. Otherwise they see "An active paid subscription is required to purchase credit packs." Ask the workspace owner to buy instead.

## If the payment doesn't go through

You'll see "Payment failed. Please check your payment method." No credits are added and you aren't charged.

To fix it, open **Billing**, add a card under **Payment Methods** with **Add New Method**, then click **Set as default**. Then try the pack again.

  If a pack is refunded, its credits are taken off your purchased balance.
